ENAC has granted Verus Certification the first accreditation to certify the welding process of railway vehicle and component manufacturers in accordance with the latest version of the UNE-EN 15085-2 standard, which incorporates the accredited certification body role.

This standard, aiming to guarantee the quality, safety and reliability of products used in the railway sector, certifies the manufacturing company’s competence and the welding process’s adequate control, verifying that the manufacturer has the resources and knowledge to apply the welding procedures according to a certain classification based on the components’ importance in railway safety.

The State Agency for Railway Safety (Agencia Estatal de Seguridad Ferroviaria, AESF), which until last July had been carrying out the assessment and certification bodies' recognition in this field, decided to stop this activity so that competence can be demonstrated through accreditation of welding process certifiers for carrying out this activity. Therefore, a transitional period has been set until 30 June for the certification bodies already recognized by AESF to adapt to the accreditation requirement.
