Díez Antoñanzas Medioambiente laboratory has obtained accreditation for biological analyses in waters that allow them to identify and number Zebra Mussel larvae, a species of highly invasive mollusk that damages biodiversity in Spanish river basins and causes economic losses for water collection and distribution.

The Zebra Mussel (Dreissena polymorpha) is categorized as an invasive exotic species. It is a bivalve, non-edible, fresh water mollusk that is also resistant to highly saline waters. It is a species that easily reproduces and forms colonies.

Since their presence was detected, there has been ecological damage affecting fauna as well as water collection and distribution infrastructures.

This is why it is so important to conduct appropriate follow-up in areas affected by Zebra Mussel populations and to detect their presence in water masses likely to be affected, in order to be able to take appropriate measures from the outset.

The accreditation granted by ENAC to Díez Antoñanzas Medioambiente offers the guarantee that analyses have been performed by a technically competent laboratory that is able to provide reliable results for decision-making in environmental control activities.
