The Spanish Society for Animal Protection (SEPROBA), together with a multidisciplinary scientific committee, in which production and industry organizations’ technical teams making up Provacuno and certification experts participate, have developed and published a new seal for animal welfare in beef cattle, PAWS. The main purpose of this new reference is to objectively assess the influence that farm conditions and management have on animal welfare and their close relationship with the animals' quality of life.

The requirements established in this new seal highlight that it can only be issued by ENAC-accredited certification bodies, to ensure, therefore, the certifiers’ technical competence and their compliance with the international UNE-EN ISO/IEC 17065 standard, as well as that their work is constantly supervised by the assessment process established by ENAC. For the president of Provacuno, Eliseo Isla, ENAC's accreditation, necessary to grant the new PAWS seal, "brings maximum national and international credibility to the certification process".

Certification bodies interested in gaining the new PAWS animal welfare seal can start the ENAC accreditation process now. For more information, you can email Elisa Gredilla, head of the Agrifood and GLP department in ENAC.
