Tecnalia certification has become the first body to obtain ENAC's accreditation for the sustainability ‘LEVEL’ certification for office and non-domestic indoor use furniture, according to the European sustainability scheme developed by la Fédération Européenne du Mobilier de Bureau (FEMB), European Federation of Office Furniture Association, made up of manufacturers and suppliers. The European ‘LEVEL’ certification scheme establishes the sustainability of a product from multiple perspectives, and therefore, not only evaluates the product's characteristics, but also the organization's and facility's where the furniture is manufactured, with criteria such as the company's social responsibility, its energy use and the environmental and human health impact. To ensure that these requirements are met, FEMB’s scheme requires that bodies certifying the sustainability ‘LEVEL’ should be accredited by a national accreditation body, ENAC, conforming to the ISO/IEC 17065 standard.

Eva Sánchez Hernández, Tecnalia certification's Quality Manager, highlights the value of the accredited ‘LEVEL’ certification for breaking down the export barriers: “Having a European product standard will bring about a fundamental change for Spanish companies, as until now, the different national standards of product sustainability were used as technical barriers in many countries. We understand that this standard will make it easier for Spanish manufacturers to enter the most demanding European markets by homogenizing the requirements in terms of sustainability".

Likewise, she says that "certified products can contribute credits to building’s sustainability qualification certification programme (BREEAM) and high-quality environment (HQE) and access to procurement, fulfilling the European criteria of green public procurement (CPE) for applicable sustainability in purchasing furniture".
