European Accreditation's Laboratory Committee has elected Belén Villamiel, Head of ENAC's Environment department Laboratories area, as its new Vicechair for a two-year period.

This committee discusses all technical issues related to testing, calibration, and medical laboratory accreditation, as well as proficiency testing providers and reference material producers in order to establish best practices and promote harmonization.

Belén Villamiel has more than two decades extensive experience in ENAC, first as Laboratory Area Head in the Agri-food department and, currently, as Laboratory Area Head in the Environmental department, and has assisted the EA Laboratory Committee on ENAC’s behalf since 2017, as well as the ILAC Accreditation Committee and the different working groups of these two organizations.

As the new Vicechair, her responsibilities include assisting the chair in performing his duties and, if necessary, seconding him: “After years of working in the Spanish and European accreditation system in the laboratory field, this appointment represents a new challenge in my professional career. I would like to express my sincere thanks to all members of the EA Secretariat and Laboratory Committee for their trust and to convey my commitment to continuing accreditation to assure the market, public administrations and society about the assessment activities that affect us every day and determine the integrity and quality of the products and services made available to our domestic and international market”.
