Spanish Ministry of Agriculture requires ENAC accreditation to notify assessment bodies wishing to operate in accordance with European fertilizer regulations
ENAC is already available to receive accreditation applications from bodies wishing to be accredited in accordance with the European regulation on fertilizer products.
Last year, the European Parliament approved Regulation (EU) 2019/1009 laying down provisions on making EU fertilizer products available on the market. As a result, the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has recently published Royal Decree 568/2020, which appoints the notifying authority on fertilizer products.
This royal decree shows that conformity assessment bodies wishing to be notified by the Ministry and therefore operate in accordance with European fertilizer regulations must previously be accredited by ENAC in accordance with UNE-EN ISO/IEC 17065.
In particular, the royal decree states that, in order to become a notified body, "the conformity assessment body must comply with UNE-EN ISO/IEC 17065:2012 or that which may replace it in the future. (…) These conformity assessment bodies' evaluation and supervision will be carried out by the national accreditation body in accordance with Royal Decree 1715/2010, which designates ENAC as the national accreditation body" in Spain.
