The Instituto Tecnológico de la Energía (ITE) has recently expanded the accreditation of its laboratory, becoming the first ENAC-accredited laboratory in Spain for conducting performance tests of secondary lithium-ion cells and of battery systems and modules for road electric vehicles, in accordance with the UNE-EN IEC 62660-1 and ISO 12405-4 standards, respectively.

These standards set out the testing methods that enable assessment of key performance parameters of batteries under different operating conditions. The UNE-EN IEC 62660-1 defines the essential electrical tests to characterize the capacity, power, and efficiency of lithium-ion cells in electric traction applications, while ISO 12405-4 focuses on the performance of battery systems and modules in specific environments, ensuring their reliability and safety in electric vehicles.

These tests for energy storage systems provide essential characteristics related to capacity, power density, and energy density - critical aspects for ensuring the efficiency and safety of batteries in their final application. ENAC accreditation reinforces confidence in the reliability of these tests, offering the automotive and energy industries a service that contributes to the batteries’ quality and safety in a sector that is key to energy transition and sustainable mobility.
