Renewal of the EA and CEN-CENELEC cooperation agreement to strengthen the European market
The European organization of accreditors, European Accreditation (EA), and the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) along with the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) have announced the renewal of their strategic cooperation agreement, reaffirming their commitment to advancing European standardization and accreditation for the benefit of businesses, public administrations, and consumers throughout the European market.
Through joint efforts, these three organizations contribute to improving product and service quality, strengthening consumer trust, and supporting the global competitiveness of European companies.
As part of the European Quality Infrastructure, the renewed agreement also promotes closer collaboration to be able to respond agilely and effectively to emerging challenges such as sustainability, digital transformation, and regulatory developments.
“Renewing the cooperation agreement with CEN and CENELEC strengthens our shared commitment to providing a robust and trustworthy accreditation and standardization infrastructure, which benefits European companies as well as consumers and regulators,” said EA Executive Secretary, Dr. Andreas Steinhorst.
For her part, Elena Santiago Cid, General Director of CEN and CENELEC, highlights the value of this ongoing collaboration for achieving European public policy goals: “Renewing our agreement with EA is based on a solid partnership that will contribute to strength and coherence in developing and reviewing standards for accreditation and conformity assessment, in support of the EU New Legislative Framework (NLF, which aims to optimize internal markets for goods by improving market vigilance and promoting the quality of conformity assessments) and the overall functioning of the European Quality Infrastructure.”
