LABAQUA: first accredited for testing activated carbon for treating drinking water
ENAC has granted accreditation to LABAQUA for carrying out tests on activated carbon for treatment of drinking water, thereby strengthening the quality and safety assurances of a key material in the treatment processes of water for human consumption. With this accreditation, it becomes the first laboratory in Spain accredited in this field, providing greater reliability in a critical sector for public health and environmental protection.
Activated charcoal plays a fundamental role in water treatment processes, as it enables unwanted substances to be removed, helping the water reach the consumer in suitable consumption conditions. Therefore, the reliability of the analyses carried out on this product means it is essential to inspect its compliance with the requirements established by the applicable regulations.
With this accreditation, the laboratory has demonstrated to ENAC that it meets the UNE-EN ISO/IEC 17025 standard’s requirements and, therefore, that it has the necessary technical resources, competent personnel, and appropriate procedures to carry out reliable testing. It thereby instils confidence in all agents involved in the comprehensive water cycle —public administrations, supply managers, operators, and consumers— by formally recognizing the technical competence of this laboratory to assess a key element in the water treatment process, whose results will also receive international recognition.
