World Accreditation Day was celebrated on June 9 with a central theme: the 2030 Agenda for the Sustainable Development of the United Nations; an ambitious and universal goal towards economic, social and environmental sustainability that, making use of the necessary means to mitigate climate change, seeks to promote equality, protect people’s dignity, and demand transformation towards environmentally friendly development, which requires the commitment, collaboration and transformation of local and national governments, businesses and society.

In this context, and on the occasion of celebrating World Accreditation Day, which aims to raise the market’s, public administration’s and society’s awareness of accreditation's importance and the value of accredited services, the two international global accreditor organizations, ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation) and the IAF (International Accreditation Forum) want to show their support of accreditation and accredited bodies in order to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

To achieve the SDGs, it is necessary to have effective mechanisms to assess and keep all market actors (authorities, companies, NGOs, associations, etc.) informed of their degree of achieving the SDGs. ENAC-accredited bodies are a tool at the service of achieving these objectives, since they have demonstrated their technical competence to issue reliable results on assessment and control activities in different key areas of the 2030 Agenda such as food safety (SDG2), diagnostic quality for patients' benefit (SDG3), water quality and the control of wastewater discharges and reclaimed water aimed at its reuse (SDG6), energy efficiency inspection, testing of renewable generation equipment and components and safety of energy supplies (SDG7), inspection of CO2 and other pollutant emissions (SDG 11 and 13), efficient waste management (SDG12), environmental protection (SDG 15), reduction of corruption and bribery (SDG 16) or the promotion of an international guaranteed market (SDG17).
