The La Fe Biobank, from the La Fe University and Polytechnic Hospital in Valencia, has obtained ENAC accreditation according to the UNE-EN ISO 20387 standard, the international standard that sets the requirements for technical competence and management for biobanks.

Specifically, the scope of La Fe Biobank's accreditation covers the activities of acquisition, preparation and preservation, quality control, storage, distribution, and transport of different types of human biological samples and their derivatives, including peripheral blood, bone marrow, cerebrospinal fluid, urine, and stool, as well as plasma, serum, genomic DNA, and cell lysate samples.

With this new accreditation, implementing this specific accreditation scheme for biobanks continues to advance in Spain. It is a tool that provides researchers with trust in the quality and technical competence with which biological samples intended for research are managed.

The UNE-EN ISO 20387 standard enables the biobank to show that it has competent staff, suitable facilities, technically validated procedures, and quality controls that ensure samples and the information associated with them are properly managed. This means that researchers can trust that the biological material they receive has been acquired, processed, stored, and distributed under controlled conditions with full traceability.
