The EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) is a management tool for companies to continuously improve their environmental behaviour and report on it to the various stakeholders (workers, management, owners, neighbours, etc.), thereby increasing transparency. With this in mind, they set up an environmental management system designed for a particular purpose: to publish information on their environmental performance.

Both the implemented environmental management system and the environmental declaration must be evaluated by an accredited environmental verifier, which must demonstrate compliance with the requirements established in Regulation (EC) No. 1221/2009.
